Album 2: Kate Bush - (Hounds of Love)

Kate Bush, otherwise known as Catherine Bush,  is an english musician, and dancer who was born in 1958. She is very well known by her unique musical style, coupling her even more unique form of dancing in music videos and live performances, however she has been very reclusive when it comes to live performances, and has only recently participated in a new live London tour (2014), after a long break from the stage.
She has influenced such artists as Lady Gaga, and others who bring music and bond it with performance art.

She became very well known by her debut single at the age of 19, which was 'Wuthering Heights'. This single topped the UK charts in 1978, and she became the UK's first female to have a number #1 spot, with a self-written song. This video below highlights this song, in the video you can see her very unique form of dancing, which in my opinion, is strange, but beautiful. It is almost as if you can feel the emotion behind the song, as it is conveyed in a physical sense.

The photo above displays Kate Bush in a pose, as she dances in the music video, "Wuthering Heights". Her dancing actions really make me think of robotics, her perfect timing and accuracy, coupled with her fluidity and seamless motion. The dancing makes me think of curves, and circles, which goes on to make me think of an album cover, featuring a contemporary simplistic style.

Some more examples of her dancing, I will convey via a few screenshots from a youtube video that I have been observing. The song for the following dance scenes, is 'Running up That Hill'.

A few other songs that she is well known for, includes 'The Man With the Child In His Eyes', and 'Babooshka'.

Kate Bush is a favourite artist of mine, and seeing her featured on the brief's list of albums, means that she was almost an immediate candidate, to progress to further research.

The album that was featured on the brief, is of her fifth studio album entitled 'The Hounds of Love'.
The artwork for this album can be seen immediately below this text.

The existing artwork for "The Hounds of Love", visually carries a use of violet tones, as you can clearly see in the background, her dress, and in the text.
If Kate Bush's album becomes a route that I wish to go down, then I have a feeling that I would be able to create a version that is unique, and very different to her current album artwork.

The cover, (in my opinion), almost seems to portray a strange dream like scene, with the subtle glow about the image.

The entire album 'The Hounds of love' is on Spotify, so I have been listening to the album, and continue to do so, to get a sense of the 'feel' of the album, what is conveys, makes me feel, and what it emits.

Above are examples of existing album artwork, that feature lines, and curves. The image that is popping into my mind for example, is based a lot on similar themes to the lower piece. The simple lines, curving into an image that is morphed into a face, that appears to be based on the artist, who is Lady Gaga.

Kate Bush has an official webpage, that can be found at the link below
