Product Choice

As part of my brief, I must come up with the concept for a commercial product.

I can choose any product, as long as I think it would be a good choice to go with the brief.

The brief has listed a few options that I can go with, if I want to.

• Home Wear
• Ceramics
• Greetings Cards
• Stationary
• Toy

List from the brief

Since my album is by the artist Kate Bush, I have decided to look and see if any of her existing merchandise fits into one of the categorieslisted on the brief.

Apparel:


Kate does sell apparel, such as T-shirts, which is a popular choice in music merchandise.
This can be found on her online shop, and this is how I know that her products are officially licensed. They often contain designs from her albums, as well as her 'fish people' logo, which is a reference to her latest album also.

Home Wear:

I haven't managed to come across any Kate Bush home wear, but I am on the lookout for any products that fit this category


Ceramics:

Although there are no ceramic merchandise on her online store, I have found quite a number of third party stores selling unlicensed mugs with her brand on them. Here are a few of the ones that I found.

A lot of these ceramics can be found on sites such as ebay, and amazon.


Greetings Cards:

On her online store Kate sells greetings cards, notably seasonal themed ones that also promote her latest album '50 Words For Snow'.
This is a very interesting idea, and one that makes great commercial sense, as the product achieves two things, with the sale of a single item.

Stationary:

I found no official Kate Bush Stationary. This is unsurprising as I didn't expect to find this on her online store, due to her target market, where the majority can be considered mature.


Toy:

I found no official Kate Bush toys. This is unsurprising as like stationary above, I didn't expect to find this for sale on her online store.

In conclusion, her most common official products include both apparel, and greetings cards.
I won't count third party products, as it is most likely unauthorised.

Instead of choosing a product from the brief, I have decided to venture outward, to come up with a more unique product idea.

I wanted to look at the market of limited edition prints, and looking at this market got me thinking about perhaps creating a limited edition print, in the form of a theoretical event ticket, to one of her venues.
